AquaBuddyAI is built by a hobbyist, for hobbyists. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it and how we protect it.

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

• Account data — email address and password (stored securely via Supabase)
• Tank data — tank setup, fish, equipment and water test results you enter
• Photos — images you upload for water test analysis, fish identification or plant diagnosis. These are processed and not stored permanently.
• Usage data — basic app usage analytics to help us improve the app
• Subscription data — managed by RevenueCat and Apple. We do not store your payment details.

3. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to provide and improve the AquaBuddyAI service:

• To power your personalised AI aquarium assistant
• To remember your tank setup, fish and water history for contextual AI responses
• To process water test photos and return results
• To send reminders for water changes and maintenance
• To manage your subscription

4. Fair Usage Policy

AquaBuddyAI uses AI technology powered by OpenAI to provide responses. To ensure a fair and reliable service for all users, the following fair usage guidelines apply:

These limits are designed to prevent abuse while giving genuine aquarium enthusiasts more than enough capacity for normal use. The vast majority of users will never approach these limits.

We reserve the right to suspend or restrict accounts that we reasonably believe are abusing the service, including automated usage, reselling access, or any usage that places unreasonable demand on our infrastructure.

5. Third Party Services

AquaBuddyAI uses the following trusted third party services:

• Supabase — secure database and authentication
• OpenAI — AI responses (your prompts are processed but not used to train models)
• RevenueCat — subscription management
• Apple — App Store, payments and device analytics

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on Supabase servers. We use industry standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. Only you can access your tank data — it is associated with your account and not visible to other users.

7. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Object to processing of your data
• Data portability

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days. Photos uploaded for analysis are not retained after processing.

9. Children's Privacy

AquaBuddyAI is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
